SUMMARY:Catamount Lodge Spring Induction Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Current Members\nWith Spring here\, it is time once again to get together in the spirit of cheerful service and fellowship while we welcome new members to the lodge. If you plan to attend and have not yet paid your 2026 dues for the year\, please choose the current member ticket option for $50. \nOrdeal Candidates\nCongratulations! You have been elected as a candidate for membership into the Order of the Arrow!\nIn most organizations\, those who are already a part of the group select new members. However\, in the OA\, your peers\, many of whom are not OA members\, selected you. They saw a quality inside of you that you might not be aware of\, and they have faith in you and how you live the Scout Oath and Law. \nAbout Ordeal Weekends\nThis is just the first step in a journey that will last a lifetime. Your next step is to attend what is called an Ordeal\, the induction experience for the Order of the Arrow. At the Ordeal weekend\, you will have a chance to prove your courage and self-reliance; listen to your inner thoughts; serve your fellow human cheerfully; and prove your ability to live the Scout Oath and Law. \nYou will have a number of chances to complete your Ordeal. The lodge holds Induction Weekends in the spring and fall of each year. You must attend one of these weekends within 18 months of being notified of your election. Otherwise\, you will need to be re-elected\, or need to get an extension. Ask your Lodge Adviser for additional details. \nFor more information about the Order of the Arrow\, the Ordeal experience\, what to bring\, and more\, please read our Information Flyer. \nUpdated 3/28/2026

SUMMARY:Walker Memorial Service 2026
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, on the Saturday after Memorial Day\, we gather for our Annual Scout/Scouter Memorial Service. This service honors the memory of Ronald E. Walker and recognizes all recently departed members of our Scouting community.\nIt’s a time to remember the Scouts and volunteers we’ve lost in the past year. All units from the Heart of New England Council are invited to attend with a color guard. \nWHERE: Walnut Grove Cemetary\, Elm St.\, North Brookfield\nWHEN: Saturday\, May 30th – 5:45PM Arrival / 6:00PM Ceremony / Cracker Barrel to follow \nWe’re encouraging all Scout leaders to bring your entire unit this year. It shows strong support for the families of those we’re honoring and reinforces the twelfth point of the Scout Law “A Scout is Reverent“. The presence of a full unit sends a powerful message of community and respect. \nPlease remember to email John Ebersold (jebs27@aol.com) or Joe Klimavich (joe.klimavich@gmail.com) with the names and a brief profile of any members from your unit who have passed away since last year’s Memorial Service. \nThank you for helping us make this service meaningful for everyone\, especially the families who’ve lost loved ones. Your participation matters. \nUpdated 8/11/2025

SUMMARY:IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills)
DESCRIPTION:When: 9/19/2026 – 9/20/2026 \nWhere: Treasure Valley Scout Reservation \nCost: $35 \nThis hands-on program gives adult leaders a practical introduction to the patrol method of a Scout-led troop by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out- of-doors. In\naddition\, the teaching methods\, activities\, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. \nHands-on participation is the best learning tool\, and this course models the techniques used by effective Scoutmasters\, advisors\, and other leaders in the Scouting program. Attendees will see and\nexperience different aspects of how Scouting works while playing the role of Scouts in a troop. \nParticipants should leave the training experience with a full understanding of how the patrol method operates\, a feeling of comfort in working with and instructing their Scouts\, and an increased level\nof confidence taking Scouts outdoors safely. With that comes great satisfaction. \nMust be present for the entire event to complete training. \nParticipants will be responsible for their own personal gear including tent. \nMeals will be provided \nPlease contact Ed King if you have any specific questions about the program – ed.king@hnescouting.org \nUpdated 12/18/2025

SUMMARY:Catamount Lodge Fall Induction Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Current Members\nWith fall fast approaching\, it is time once again to get together in the spirit of cheerful service and fellowship while we welcome new members to the lodge. Your registration for the event includes lodge dues for the upcoming year. \nThe Order is shrouded in mystery. We closely safeguard our ceremonies and traditions. This does not mean that you cannot talk to your parents about what happens. In fact\, we encourage it\, as it will help you to gain a better understanding. We do\, however\, ask that you not discuss it with your friends who might become members themselves one day. You would ruin the experience for them.

SUMMARY:Den Chief Training
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE \nWhen: Sunday\, October 25\, 2026\nTime: 10:00am – 1:00pm\nWhere: Treasure Valley Scout Reservation West: West Lodge\nCourse Fee: $15\nWho can register: Units leaders or parents can register their Scout for this training. \nA Den Chief is a Scout\, Venturer or Sea Scout assisting a Cub Scout den. But the story is far more important than those words suggest as the Den Chief: \nServes as a Scouting role model for the Cub Scouts in the den\, as well as the entire pack; Promotes Scouting in general and the local troop in particular; Encourages the transition of Webelos Scouts into Scouts BSA; Holds a leadership position in the troop or crew\, thus fulfilling an advancement requirement in the unit. \nIn addition\, a trained Den Chief: \nAssists the den leader with planning and conducting den meetings; Understands the Cub Scouting program and the differences between Cub Scouts and other Scouting programs; Understands the den leader’s duties and confidently helps lead portions of the den meeting program; Knows a variety of resources for age-appropriate activities for Cub Scouts in the den; Brings a repertoire of activities that Cub Scouts enjoy. \nThis training is designed to build on each of these ideas using a framework that will allow the new Den Chief\, or perhaps the experienced Den Chief looking for new ideas\, to have fun and learn the role. \nAdult leaders need to make sure the role is seen as important and necessary. In agreeing to accept a Den Chief’s assistance\, they ensure the Den Chief has meaningful opportunities to support the den and assist with activities\, to the best of the Den Chief’s ability. In this way\, the den receives the many benefits of having a Den Chief while the Den Chief has opportunities to learn and grow as a leader and Scout. \nCubmasters request Den Chief help from Scoutmasters\, Crew Advisors or Ship Skippers. These adults need to acknowledge the importance of Den Chiefs before the whole troop\, crew or ship and make sure all members understand that the Den Chief holds a leadership position of responsibility. \nDon’t miss out on this great youth training opportunity! \n9/30/2025
