SUMMARY:Catamount Lodge Fall Induction Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Current Members\nWith fall fast approaching\, it is time once again to get together in the spirit of cheerful service and fellowship while we welcome new members to the lodge. Your registration for the event includes lodge dues for the upcoming year. \nOrdeal Candidates\nCongratulations! You have been elected as a candidate for membership into the Order of the Arrow!\nIn most organizations\, those who are already a part of the group select new members. However\, in the OA\, your peers\, many of whom are not OA members\, selected you. They saw a quality inside of you that you might not be aware of\, and they have faith in you and how you live the Scout Oath and Law. \nAbout Ordeal Weekends\nThis is just the first step in a journey that will last a lifetime. Your next step is to attend what is called an Ordeal\, the induction experience for the Order of the Arrow. At the Ordeal weekend\, you will have a chance to prove your courage and self-reliance; listen to your inner thoughts; serve your fellow human cheerfully; and prove your ability to live the Scout Oath and Law. \nThe Order is shrouded in mystery. We closely safeguard our ceremonies and traditions. This does not mean that you cannot talk to your parents about what happens. In fact\, we encourage it\, as it will help you to gain a better understanding. We do\, however\, ask that you not discuss it with your friends who might become members themselves one day. You would ruin the experience for them. \nYou will have a number of chances to complete your Ordeal. The lodge holds Induction Weekends in the spring and fall of each year. You must attend one of these weekends within 18 months of being notified of your election. Otherwise\, you will need to be re-elected\, or need to get an extension. Ask your Lodge Adviser for additional details. \nFor more information about the Order of the Arrow\, the Ordeal experience\, what to bring\, and more\, please read our Information Flyer. \nUpdated 6/8/2025

SUMMARY:BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) Training Fall 2025
DESCRIPTION:BALOO training is adult Cub Scout leader training for leading pack camping trips. All Cub Scout packs must have at least one BALOO trained leader on any pack camping trip. Having two trained leaders gives you backup coverage in case of unexpected illness or schedule changes. Sign up for BALOO training with a friend and let us help you get your pack ready for camping season. \nTrained leaders are critical to the success of Scouting. Every young person involved in the Scouting program needs and deserves a leader who understands the aims of the program and knows how to deliver it with enthusiasm and fun. Trained leaders are more effective at delivering the promise of Scouting because they understand their role\, responsibilities\, and the resources available to them. \nThis is a hands-on informative training weekend that will give you insight to the skills you need to take your Cub Scouts on outdoor events. Participants will be camping at Fort Courage. \nMust be present for the entire event to complete training.\nParticipants will be responsible for their own personal gear including tent.\nMeals will be provided \nThe online portion of this training at my.scouting.org must be completed before your arrival. This training requires an overnight stay in a tent you set up. Your participation in all in-person lessons is required to receive credit as trained. \nWhy should Cub leaders be BALOO trained? \n\nAt least one BALOO trained leader is required on all Cub Scout camping trips.\nBALOO training ensures your camping outings are covered under BSA insurance.\nBALOO trained Webelos den leaders can take their den camping on its own without the pack!\nTraining gives you resources for creating a fun camping program and saving money\n\nLast updated 1/16/2025 \n

SUMMARY:IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills) Training Fall 2025
DESCRIPTION:IOLS – Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills  \nDATES: Saturday September 6th 7:30AM to September 7th 11:00AM\nLOCATION: Treasure Valley Scout Reservation (East side)\nCOST:  $35.00\nUNIFORM:  Activity Uniform (Class B) \nIntroduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors\, designed to help you become familiar with basic camp skills required for Scout to First Class. \nIOLS builds and expands on concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and Varsity Coach Position-Specific Training. It provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors. This hands-on program gives adult leaders a practical introduction by teaching many of the practical outdoor skills needed to lead Scouts in the outdoors. In addition\, the teaching methods\, activities\, and games model the variety of teaching used in an effective and engaging Scouting program. \nInstructors will help you learn how to set up camp\, cook\, work with woods tools\, and about ropes. Also learn to plan and lead campfire programs\, map reading and compass skills\, hiking and packing techniques\, nature identification\, and outdoor ethics. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Scouts BSA Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you\nserve. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained\, skilled leader. \nHands-on participation is the best learning tool\, and this course models the techniques used by effective Scoutmasters\, advisors\, and other leaders in the Scouting program. Attendees will see and experience different aspects of how Scouting works while playing the role of Scouts in a troop. \nParticipants should leave the training experience with a full understanding of how the patrol method operates\, a feeling of comfort in working with and instructing their Scouts\, and an increased level of confidence taking Scouts outdoors safely. With that comes great satisfaction. \nMust be present for the entire event to complete training.\nParticipants will be responsible for their own personal gear including tent. \nThis course includes a required overnight camping trip with participants sleeping in tents. Three meals are provided as part of the course. Detailed info will be emailed to enrollees after registration.
