Barbara A. Mahoney is President & CEO of Leominster Credit Union (LCU). Barbara has been providing leadership direction and vision to LCU for 20 years, initially as SVP of Human Resources and then as Chief Operations Officer, prior to moving into her current position.
Living in Leominster for the majority of her life, Barbara is proud of her community and passionate about participating with organizations that continue to influence and give back to those around us. She is an enthusiastic supporter of numerous community groups and nonprofit organizations in Central MA. Barbara is also a member of the Society of Human Resources Management and the New England Human Resources Association. Barbara regularly conveys the importance of giving back and engaging initiatives for the betterment of all. She lives and breathes this every day while delivering the credit union motto of People Helping People. Outside of work and supporting our communities, Barbara is devoted to her three children, Brianna, Garrett and Olivia.
Dr. Richard S. Lapidus, a recognized leader in higher education, took office as the 11th President of Fitchburg State University in July 2015. A product of public education, he has long been an advocate for increased access and affordability for higher education. Since becoming president, he has been guiding the university by advancing teaching and leadership excellence, fostering diversity and inclusiveness, and engaging the campus community as a steward of place within the city and region.
He is active in the community and volunteers his time in support of a variety of civic leadership organizations. He serves on the boards of several local institutions and he was named one of Worcester Business Journal’s “Power 50” in 2022 for his work in community development. Dr. Lapidus and his wife, Lisa, live in Fitchburg. They have two children, Zachary and Hannah.
The Heart of New England Council has honored a number of leading corporate and community leaders with the Distinguished Citizen Award. The Distinguished Citizen is chosen for his/her long standing commitment to our local communities. Their efforts have helped improve the quality of life for thousands of people who are less fortunate. Their tireless leadership, energy and vitality have been a true inspiration to all who serve within numerous charitable organizations. The values learned through the Boy Scouts are much the same as the values held by our Distinguished Citizen – good citizenship, outstanding moral fiber with a dedication to other, and for living their lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
This event raises awareness for the good work of Scouting in Central MA, as well as necessary funds to serve over 4,000 young people with lessons in self-confidence, character development and leadership.
