The Heart of New England Council will be conducting an In-Council Chainsaw Safety Course at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation. This course is designed to help volunteers get trained in the safe use of chainsaws to help clear trails, remove deadfalls, clear hazards, and stockpile firewood around camp.
The National Camp Accreditation Program Standards require that any person who operates a chainsaw be approved by the Council designee. Chainsaw operators must be at least 21 years old and meet one of the following requirements: be a professional forester with current credentials and liability insurance; be a certified arborist with credentials; have documentation of training in chainsaw techniques from either (1) state or federally recognized chainsaw training course approved by the council or (2) the BSA Chainsaw Basic Training Course #430-136.
This will be a storm damage class for those wishing to operate chainsaws on HNE property. You have to be over 21 YOA. If you have never operated a chainsaw this class is NOT for you. Bill Girard of Game of Logging will be the instructor; we are doing this in cooperation with the Midstate Trail Association. Seating is limited. If we have more people interested than there are seats, we will schedule another class.
BSA chainsaw training is a 12-hour course which will cover both classroom saw safety operations and a field cutting day.
